STORY OF A FAMILY OF PIPEMAKERS

The beginning of the activity dates back to 1880, when Mr. Scotti Achille, formerly an employee at a prestigious organ factory in Crema, opened an enterprise under his name as a plumbing suitable for the production of metal sheets and pipes for organs. The figure of Achille, perhaps in accordance with the same name, was handed down by his successors like a mythical figure. Posterity still remembers how he was jealous of the formula of his "spotted" that prompted him, almost like an ancient alchemist, to barricade himself alone in the laboratory at the time of the merger and then probed with his finger directly in the crucible, the success of the league. He was so careful and meticulous in his work that he came to the point of descend on a rope inside the largest pipe of  the organ of the Cathedral in Cremona so as to control the perfection of the welds. Achille owned the company until 23 March 1927 when it was passed to his son Oreste introduced to the craft at an early age. Also Oreste, in turn, introduced his sons Giuseppe and Bruno in the firm and gave prestige to the company transforming it from plumbing to "workshop for the construction of metal pipes for organs". The company moved into larger laboratory always in Crema. It was always under his direction that the production Scotti was able to land in the new world. In fact, he was commissioned by the Hollydaysburg Cannarsa Organ Company of Pennsylvania, the construction of some stops.

During the Second World War, the family business was forced to stop, in these years the sons Giuseppe and Bruno decided to refine their technical construction cycling weekly to Milano (about 50 kilometers from Crema) at the prestigious organ builders Balbiani where Giuseppe became chief of the metal pipes department.
Immediately after the war, Giuseppe decided to update and refine his technical knowledge going for an internship working at an important Swiss organ builder where he learned the crafting of new stops of North European type, the so-called "Mixture, Cymbale and Scharf" wich were little known in Italy but still required by foreign customers.
In 1953, the individual enterprise "Scotti Oreste" was transformed into a partnership, called the "SCOTTI FRATELLI". In 1960 the brothers Scotti built a new laboratory, much broader and more technological, where the company will continue its activity for more than 40 years.

In the new venue were built, in 1967, the massive pipes for an organ of a church in Lourdes (France), over 2000 pipes, corresponding to the phonic yield of 20 stops. The greater pipe exceeded the height of both the laboratory and the house above it. This enormous pipe, belonging to the register of the Principal, measured 32 feet equal to 10.50 meters height, for a weight of 110 kilos and a diameter of 31 centimeters.

In 1971 the company was dissolved and henceforth was managed only by Giuseppe. Nevertheless it kept the name "SCOTTI FRATELLI" until 1972 when Mr.Agostino Cerioli, a trusted collaborator active at the laboratory since the age of 15 years, joined the partnership.
The resourcefulness of Giuseppe led the company to another overseas great success with a supply of pipes for a church located in New York Filmore Avenue. After this important production the "Associazione Italiana per la promozione e l'esportazione" awarded  the company SCOTTI FRATELLI with the "PREMIO NAZIONALE DELL'OPEROSITA': VITTORIA ALL'EXPORT 1975" The prize was awarded to all those companies that, thanks to their productive activity and their technology reached, validly contributed to the prestige of the national production.
Due to his nature as a man very talkative and jovial, Giuseppe, won the affection and friendship of many prestigious Italian organ builders. As tradition Giuseppe brought his sons Oreste and Luca in the family business from a young age.

Currently the business is pursued by his son Luca with great passion and pride to be the fourth representative of a dynasty of pipemakers. He was initiated in this art at a young age too, initially as an apprentice to his father's side and then, after the untimely death of Giuseppe, as a partner of the firm SCOTTI SDF. The young age of Luca (little more than eighteen) and the weight of responsability, however, have not arrested the evolution and development of the company. In 1987, Luca took over full management of the company transforming it in an individual enterprise under its current name SCOTTI GIUSEPPE di Scotti Luca Giovanni. The enterprising spirit of Luca led him to travel extensively not only to continue to keep alive the friendship established by his predecessor, but especially to learn new construction technologies in order to refine and improve the production in terms of timing and quality, but always in compliance with the " Code of Conduct of the true pipemakers". He was responsible for the transfer, occured in 1999, to the current headquarters in Via Everest 4/6- Crema, a reality much more spacious one and built specifically for the compliance with the safety standards to safeguard the health of the employees and the environment. This is a new building where sophisticated systems of extraction and purification of fusion and welding fumes are installed. Particular attention has been paid also to the introduction of machinery to lighten the weight of some processes such as the use of an ultrasonic bath for washing the smaller pipes, both the new and the restored ones; the introduction of a machine for bore polishing and some rolling machines to facilitate the rolling of the plates. All these jobs were previously done manually with great effort and energy expenditure.
In 2005 the company became a member of the 'A.I.O. Associazione Italiana Organari' and later, in 2009-2010, Luca held the office of Treasurer.
Currently the company counts among its clients some of the most prestigious organ builders, Italian, European and from USA.
